Role Overview

Westpac’s Marketing & Communications Domain is seeking a technically proficient
and solution oriented Engineer with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and
Hibernate to design, build, and optimise digital integration components within
our enterprise ecosystem. You’ll play a critical role in defining API first
solutions, contributing to event driven architecture (Kafka), and guiding the
development teams to build scalable, secure, and observable components.

 

Key Responsibilities

* Design and build backend and integration solutions using Java (8/11/17),
Spring Boot, and Hibernate/JPA 
* Define and deliver REST APIs using Swagger/OpenAPI, aligned with enterprise
integration standards 
* Develop microservices and reusable components for data ingestion,
orchestration, and downstream delivery 
* Own API and Kafka integrations, including topic design, schemas, consumers,
and resilient pub/sub patterns 
* Ensure strong non‑functional requirements (performance, scalability,
reliability) with observability via Splunk 
* Provide technical leadership, mentoring engineers and contributing to
solution design, governance, and delivery assurance

 

Required Skills & Attributes

* Strong hands‑on experience with Java, Spring Boot / Spring Cloud, Hibernate,
and REST API development 
* Proven ability to define and document APIs using Swagger / OpenAPI, including
integration contracts 
* Experience working with Apache Kafka for event streaming, topic/schema
design, and consumer management 
* Solid understanding of secure API design, including OAuth2, JWT, and
authentication best practices 
* Expertise in microservices architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and
containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) 
* Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Splunk for logging
and diagnostics
